Beginning French I - FRN 1010

Le Pelican by Robert Desnos is a delightful little poem about adventure, triumph, struggle and humor. Below is a video of myself reciting this poem. I chose this poem in particular because it spoke to my inner child. I could see myself as a five year old, out in my back yard, masquerading as a captain of the high seas. I would make a paper hat and use a stick as a telescope to view this new world. This poem speaks to the imaginations of everyone's inner child.

Another aspect of this poem that I love is the choice in language. There were a few challenges in pronouncing some of the words the poet chose. But, if you have the patience and courage to speak them correctly, it becomes a masterful flow of beauty when it is done just right.

Finally, who could not love the ending to this poem. It reminds me of the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indiana Jones is supposed to fight this big nasty bag guy, and he pulls out his gun and shoots him instead. Slightly violent comparison, but I felt it strangely appropriate since Captain Jonathan decides to solve his dilemma by cooking an omelet.

Hopefully I have given you enough to think about now as you listen to my recitation. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
